What is 2Hearts (TwoHearts)?

2Hearts (often spelled TwoHearts or Two Hearts) is a private relationship app for couples on iPhone and Apple Watch, designed with long distance relationships in mind.

Unlike messaging apps where your partner's chat sits next to work messages and group threads, 2Hearts connects you with one person and no one else. It gives the two of you a quiet space to share your real heartbeat, see each other's presence, send one-tap nudges, leave notes and drawings on each other's Home Screen, and answer questions together.

1. Feel your partner's heartbeat, live or recorded

Feeling someone's heartbeat is one of the closest things you can share from far away. It's the only thing that can be physical.

In 2Hearts, you take your pulse either by resting a fingertip over your iPhone's camera and flash while holding the orb, or by wearing your Apple Watch (see how Apple Watch heartbeat readings work). You don't need an Apple Watch to use the app; an iPhone is enough for both of you.

  • Recorded heartbeats wait for your partner. When you finish a reading, your heartbeat is sent to your partner. Whenever they open it, they hold their iPhone in their hand and feel the real rhythm of your heart through gentle haptics. It plays once, like a real moment you shared, and its shape stays in your shared Activity.
  • Live sessions let you feel each other in real time. While you're recording a heartbeat, your partner gets a notification and 30 seconds to join you. You aren't told whether they're coming. If they tap to join while you're recording, the screen opens into a calm sky of stars and you feel each other's live heartbeat in your hand at the exact same moment, for up to a minute.

2. Quiet presence and one-tap nudges

A relationship isn't always about typing long messages back and forth (see our guide to texting rules in a long distance relationship). Often what you miss most is simply knowing your partner is there.

  • Presence that is only for you: TwoHearts shows you when your partner is around in the app and when they were last there. Because there is no feed to scroll and no one else to message in 2Hearts, every single time you see that your partner was there, you know they opened the app purely because of you.
  • One-tap "thinking of you" nudges: When you're walking into a meeting, in class or commuting and don't have time for a conversation, a single tap sends a gentle nudge so your partner knows they crossed your mind.

3. Shared notes, drawings, photos and the Home Screen widget

Between calls, 2Hearts lets you leave small traces of your day for your partner to find:

  • Notes, sketches and photos: Write a short note, draw a doodle with your finger, or attach a photo from your day.
  • Take it back if you change your mind: Sent a note too soon or want to redo a drawing? You can take it back before your partner has seen it.
  • iPhone Home Screen widget: Add the 2Hearts widget to your iPhone Home Screen so your partner's newest note, drawing or photo is waiting for you every time you unlock your phone.

4. Questions for the two of you

When you talk every day from far away, it's easy for calls to turn into routine status updates. 2Hearts includes Questions built specifically for two people.

You can ask each other questions in the app—from light, playful prompts to deeper questions about your relationship, memories and future plans. When you answer a question, your answer stays hidden until your partner has answered too. Once you've both written your responses, both answers unlock at the same time, giving you something meaningful to talk about on your next call or long distance date night.

5. How to get started with your partner

  1. Download 2Hearts on the App Store. Both you and your partner install 2Hearts on iPhone (and optionally on Apple Watch).
  2. Tether with an invite code. One of you creates a private invite code inside the app and shares it with the other. Once entered, your accounts are tethered exclusively to each other.
  3. One subscription covers both of you. Only one partner needs to subscribe through the App Store; that single subscription unlocks every feature in 2Hearts for both of you.

Everything you share in 2Hearts is private by design: there are no ads, no tracking, and we never sell your data. When you read your pulse with your iPhone's camera, the video is processed on your phone and immediately discarded. You can read the full details in our Privacy Policy.
